COS Cardio Celebrates First TAVI Procedure at Bon Secours Hospital Cork

COS Cardio is delighted to mark an important milestone in cardiovascular care in Munster with the successful completion of the first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) procedure at Bon Secours Hospital Cork.
The procedure was performed by Consultant Interventional Cardiologists Dr Bryan Traynor and Dr Cróchán O’Sullivan, establishing the first TAVI programme within the Bon Secours Health System in Ireland.
TAVI is a minimally invasive treatment for severe aortic stenosis, offering an effective alternative to open-heart surgery for appropriately selected patients. The introduction of this service means that patients in Cork and the surrounding region can now access this advanced treatment closer to home.
“This represents the culmination of many months of planning and collaboration between cardiologists, cardiac anaesthetists, cardiac physiologists, nursing staff, radiographers, hospital management and our industry partners. We are grateful to everyone involved in making this service possible.”
The launch of the programme reflects COS Cardio’s ongoing commitment to bringing advanced cardiovascular care to patients across Munster. As the service develops, we look forward to expanding access to structural heart interventions while maintaining the highest standards of patient care.
